Kostenko, M. Sulfide copper-nickel mineralization in the northwestern part of the Ukrainian shield // Geological Journal. – 1989. – V. 49, № 2. – P. 94-103.

Manifestations of nickel mineralization in the north-western part of the Ukrainian Shield is briefly characterized. The Prutovka sulphide copper-nickel ore manifestation revealed recently in the framing of the Buki gabbro-diorite-granodiorite massif is characterized at greater length. Ore manifestation, presented by the chalcopyrite-pentlandite-pyrrhotite association is spatially and paragenetically related to the gabbro-dolerite intrusion. Mineralization formation is explained by deep segregation and distribution of sulphide melt through faultings (following the injections of residual basic rock melt) from intermediate magmatic focus, whose earliest derivatives are rocks forming the Buki massif.

Nonferrous Metals of Ukraine LLC is planning a drilling program with a total scope of about 1,500 m

Nonferrous Metals of Ukraine LLC is planning a drilling program with a total scope of about 1,500 m with corresponding geological logging, a complex of geophysical logging and analytical tests. Increase of resource confidence categories, confirmation of resource quantity and quality in accordance with the requirements of international standards (JORC or NI-43-101) is expected.

Kanevskyi A., Kotvytskyi L., Kostenko M. Potential nickel mineralization of the Prutivka-Buki area of the Ukrainian Shield // Geological Journal. – 1992. – № 1. – P. 55-63.

Numerous intrusions of mafites and ultramafites are revealed in the frame of the Buki massif (the Ukrainian Shield). The epigenetic impregnated sulphide copper-nickel ores were found in two of them (Prutivka and Zaliznyaki). The chemistry of these intrusions is compared with intrusions of similar composition in nickel-bearing regions of the Soviet Union. A conclusion was made about the potential sulfide nickel mineralization of the massifs composed of pyroxenites and peridotites, which have positive petrochemical signs for the ores.

Halii S., Kohut K., Shyrhabekov N. Platinoid in sulfide ores of the northwestern block of the Ukrainian Shield // Mineralogical journal. – 1994. – V. 16, № 3/4. – P. 21-28.

Platinum content of sulphidic copper-nickel: ores in intrusive mafite-ultra-mafites of the Volynian megablock of the Ukrainian Shield was studied for the first time. It is found that accumulation of platinoids is a result of residual melts at high activity of bismuth and tellurium. A rise in the platinum concentration of minerals corresponds to an increase in metallic properties of relations in their structures. Attribution of platinoid concentration to zones of enhanced content of a volatile constituent of the ore-magmatic system may serve as a prospecting criterion.

At present Prutiv intrusion is investigated mainly as sulfide-nickel object. Sulphide copper-nickel mineralization refers to the contacts between habroids and bearing strata, it is now considered to be one of the most challenging objects of the north-western part of the Ukrainian shield to investigate various types of mineralization: sulphide-nickel, attendant noble-metal and platinum-metal one.

Kostenko M. Metallogenic Features and Ore-bearing Evaluation of Basite Dike Formations of Volyn Block of the Ukrainian Shield // Scientific proceedings of UkrSGRI – № 3–4. – 2014. – P. 53-69.

According to the analysis of metallogenic ultramafic-mafic formations Volyn megablock are divided into three groups of rock associations, which have different metallogenic potential. The first group includes a metamorphic peridotite-pyroxenite-gabbronorite (Nartsyzivskyy complex) and granitic gabbro associations (Osnytskyy complex) that do not have any clearly defined metallogenic specialization. The second group includes the formations of metallogenic ultramafic-mafic-monzonites (Bukynskyy complex), tholeiitic gabbrodolerites (Prutivskyy complex) and gabbro-troctolitic (Kamyanskyy complex) associations. The geological, mineralogical, petrographic and petrochemical features of this formation group are matched to world known nickel formations and can includes the large commercial deposits of sulphde copper-nickel ore formations with a cobalt and platinum associated components. The third metallogenic group includes the basic rocks of gabbro-anorthosite (Korostenskyy complex) and subalkalic gabbrodolerites (postkorostenskyy and postovrutskyy dike complexes) associations, which are characterized by a distinct phosphorus-titanium metallogenic specialization.

Shumlyanskyy L., Ernst R., Billström K., Wing B., Bekker A. Age and Sulfur Isotope Composition of the Prutivka Intrusion (the 1.78 Ga Prutivka-Novogol Large Igneous Province in Sarmatia) // Mineralogical Journal. – 38, No 3. – 2016. – P. 91-101.

There are a number of dykes and layered intrusions of the Ni-bearing tholeiitic dolerites and gabbro in the Northwestern region of the Ukrainian Shield. These dykes and intrusions were considered either as feeders for the completely eroded continental flood basalts emplaced in an extensional setting or as syn-collisional complexes that crystallized from the mantle melts during the collision of Fennoscandia and Volgo-Sarmatia cratons. Recent U-Pb dating of these rocks indicates that their age is 1780 to 1790 Ma. A U-Pb baddeleyite age is presented for the Prutivka layered dolerite intrusion that hosts the only known Ni-Cu(-PGE) sulfide deposit on the Ukrainian Shield. The new baddeleyite age (1779.2 ± 6.9 Ma) corresponds within the error with the zircon age (1777.0 ± 4.7 Ma) obtained previously for the same sample (Shumlyanskyy et al., 2012) and differs from the zircon age of 1990 ± 5 Ma reported by Skobelev et al. (1991), which is now considered to be incorrect. The new baddeleyite age definitively confirms that this intrusion belongs to the Prutivka-Novogol Large Igneous Province (LIP) and emphasises the potential of gabbroic, layered intrusions belonging to this event to host Ni-Cu(-PGE) sulphide ores. We have also analyzed sulfur isotope composition of sulfide minerals from the Prutivka deposits. Samples were selected from the near-bottom accumulations of sulfide minerals. Sulfur isotope composition (δ34S values) ranges from +0.8 to +3.6 ‰, which corresponds to the previously established range and indicates mantle sulfur source. Sulfur isotope data and U-Pb ages are consistent with the emplacement of the Prutivka-Novogol LIP in an extensional setting, developed shortly after the assembly of Baltica.
